The Catcher in the Rye is about Holden Caulfield, a 16-year-old boy who struggles with growing up. A good coming of age novel in which Holden shows how difficult it sometimes is to deal with the adult world. He shows how lonely and sometimes depressed life can be.

I bought this book a while ago but hadn't picked it up yet. At the beginning of this year I ran out of my TBR pile of new books and decided to pick up this book. I read this book in high school but didn't quite remember what it was about so I decided to re-read it.

The story, as mentioned before, is about Holden Caulfield who is expelled from his school because of his poor performance. Holden then decides to leave early without telling his parents. He has a hard time telling his parents this news because he feels he has failed again and fears the consequences. He does visit his sister Phoebe who is super excited to see him again.

The Catcher in the Rye is written from the first person perspective. Holden tells about the events of the past period just before the Christmas holidays. This perspective fits very well because you experience his thoughts and language which is sometimes a bit rude. But this is part of being an adolescent and fits very well with the story. The story is not difficult to understand and is a good read.

The Catcher in the Rye is an interesting glimpse into the life of a teenager and the problems they may encounter. It is well written and therefore highly recommended. I think that the book is not only interesting for adolescents, but also for older people to give an insight into the life of an adolescent.
