A while ago I got Code Name Verity from a classmate along with some other books. Since then, this book has been sitting on my shelf and I've never really picked it up - you know how it goes. Now I thought it was time to pick up some books from my TBR list. This book was one of them and I certainly didn't regret it!

Code Name Verity is about two girls during the Second World War. They fly to France together on a mission, but it all goes wrong. Both girls end up in a different place and experience their time in France. Can they both survive on their own and come back to England?

At the beginning of the story we learn more about Julie and Maggie when they were still in England. Slowly we learn more about the situation they find themselves in and why they ended up in France and are now in trouble. The story then moves to France and the events surrounding Maggie and Julie, both seeking freedom. The story ends quite surprisingly but without telling spoilers I can't say much about this.

The story is written like a diary. In the first part of the story this is indicated by the date at the top right. The second part indicates that it is a diary by the bold first few words of each part, making it appear as if it was handwritten. The first part of the story is told from Julie's perspective, including Maggie. Julie is the narrator here and she writes about Maggie as a side character. The second part of the story is written from the first person perspective from Maggie.

The story flows slowly and is not super exciting or compelling in the beginning. There is a lot of information given which can sometimes be a bit confusing. The second part of the story on the other hand, is a bit more exciting, also because the story gets a bit more clarity.

Overall, I thought it was an interesting story but not super exciting. Definitely a must read if you like historical books!
